1956年（民國45年），台灣省立高雄女子中學以廳令疏散地區學校，須籌設分部，而以橋頭鄉交通便利，遂選定現址成立分部，同年4月27日奉准於橋頭鄉設立「省立高雄女子中學橋頭分部」招收初中女生，本部在民國46~47年一度停辦初中，後又恢復招生。
1959年（民國48年）臺灣省政府教育廳在為減輕升學壓力提出「省辦高中，縣市辦初中」，高雄市為首試辦區域名單內，1962年（民國51年）省立高雄女中正式全面停招初中新生，橋頭分部由省立岡山中學接辦，改名為「臺灣省立岡山中學橋頭分部」。
1964年（民國53年）8月1日起劃歸高雄縣政府，改為「高雄縣立橋頭初級中學」，正式獨立設校。
1968年（民國57年），配合政府中華民國義務教育由六年延長為九年的教育措施，改為「高雄縣立橋頭國民中學」。
2010年（民國99年）12月25日因精省，高雄縣市合併改名為「高雄市立橋頭國民中學」。

Brief history of campus establishment/
In 1956 (Republic of China 45), the Taiwan Provincial Kaohsiung Girls’ High School evacuated regional schools under the order of the department. It was necessary to establish a branch. Because of the convenient transportation in Qiaotou Township, the current location was selected and the branch was established. Qiaotou Township established the "Provincial Kaohsiung Girls’ High School Qiaotou Branch" to recruit junior high school girls. The headquarters temporarily closed junior high schools in 1949 and then resumed enrollment.
In 1959 (Republic of China 48), the Education Department of the Taiwan Provincial Government proposed "provincial high schools, county and municipal junior high schools" in order to reduce the pressure of entering higher schools. Kaohsiung City was the first pilot to run the regional list. The recruitment of junior high school students was officially suspended. The Qiaotou branch was taken over by the provincial Okayama Middle School and was renamed as the "Taiwan Provincial Okayama Middle School Qiaotou Branch."
In 1964 (Republic of China 53 years), it was transferred to the Kaohsiung County Government on August 1, and was changed to "Kaohsiung County Qiaotou Junior High School", which was formally established as an independent school.
In 1968 (Republic of China 57), in line with the government's educational measures to extend the compulsory education of the Republic of China from six years to nine years, it was changed to "Kaohsiung County Qiaotou National High School".
On December 25, 2010 (Republic of China), due to the merger of the province, Kaohsiung County and City, it was renamed "Kaohsiung City Qiaotou National High School".
