Worst experience ever. Teachers are professionals, yet the consultants and the counters are not.

This is probably one of the best yoga studios that I have come across as a nomadic wanderer of the world. In the few months that I have been to these class I have learn more than the years of just imitating postures. Here the teacher whole heartedly give out what the obstacles they have gone through and the basic poses you may never get in your life time if you do not understand how to follow your breath. True meditation is hard and so is shavasana when thoughts go flying through your head, and sometimes those deep breaths will bring back pain and suffering from the past but learning to breath out is equally if not more important as you let go of all that has been pressure cocked into the mold society somehow is able to place you into a land lock with your self and hence chancing after desires and wants that in the end we find out is not what is actually what we want to gain. They teach you how to practice yoga in a way that is fluid but also awareness of holding the correct postures are not just swished by. It is in understanding our own individuality, our own bodies that we can posture and breathe ourselves into places and spaces never imagined. I have not even gotten to studying the philosophy of yoga but just through what is considered intermediate classes in NYC is actually beginner classes at space yoga. Maybe it is the company culture through its brand becomes effortlessly a part of your daily lifestyle and maybe Using Chinese the concept is broken down more finely. Those who have been practicing yoga for years you will find that a simple correction in breath and stance will quickly bring you into postures you never thought you would be able to do in your lifetime. Namaste.

Space Yoga is one of the most famous yoga center in Taipei. The instructors are quite professional and there are diversified classes for different levels. I've practiced one year in Space. Highly recommended!

I attended two classes at Space over the past two days. I must say I was incredibly thrown off by how the first instructor, Sharon (Flow) conducted her class. As I was new at the studio and not a member, I could not help but feel singled out by Sharon - I was called out for placing my water bottle in front of my mat and was told to place it against the wall instead. Immediately, I saw this as a red flag. What ensued was a very negative yoga experience. The instructor exhibited zero compassion and humility. She went around literally smacking others and myself when our alignment were supposedly incorrect. She kept telling me to "throw my yoga habits out of the window", and to follow her manner of teaching word for word. We were not treated and respected like adults, and instead were being patronised time and time again for not listening to her dictate our every move. I felt I was back in elementary school with a very controlling teacher. I was so unnerved throughout the entire duration of the class. All I could hear was Sharon barking out commands like a drill instructor. By the way, I expected a regular Flow class where everyone goes through asanas continuously with one breath, one movement. What I experienced instead was a choppy hatha practice with no flow at all. Why label it as a Flow class then? Having practiced yoga for more than a decade around the world, it was the first time I encountered something so abominable. Prior to this one class, I've ever only been gently adjusted by instructors, never brutally corrected as was the case at Space. It seems like the instructors at Space think of yoga as a one size fits all - with no regard for different anatomies, going against the law of nature. Dear Sharon, I strongly urge you to throw your ego out of the window. It looks like you completely forgot the true essence of yoga - the yamas and niyamas. Whatever happened to ahimsa (non-violence) and loving kindness? If bludgeoning your students into fear and passivity is your modus operandi, then I truly worry for the future of yoga. All in all, I would not recommend Space if you are not looking to join as a long term member. Unless you wish to be treated like a person of colour in the apartheid... Namaste.

I tried to find a yoga studio to practice while I am in Taipei. Called this studio a week prior my arrival to confirm that they would allow single class drop in. The sales person I spoke with said no problem, just show up early and pay 950NT per class. So I did. When I showed up, I learned that what they meant is you can only take the beginners class and nothing else. I asked them for an exception since I have been practicing yoga for many many years. But they would not. I have traveled all over the world and joined many yoga classes spontaneously. Never had I had a yoga studio reject me this way. This is against all that is representative of the yogi spirit. You do not refuse a student who is eager to learn and willing to join in on the collective energy of a practice. It is too sad that such place exists and claims to be part of the yoga world.

Staff are great. Some of the teachers are beyond a doubt among the best I have seen in over 10 years of experience across several continents and even including some of the more well known destinations for yoga. That said, be forewarned that some teachers can be quite rude. Meanwhile, some refuse to speak English even though their bio claims they speak and I suppose they must be getting paid as “bilingual teachers.” Find the teachers you like and you’ll be fine. You might have a bad experience but you can always leave a class early. You’re definitely not getting out of that contract early though, that’s for sure.
