板橋林家子孫經商以本記與源記產業與財力最大，經營範圍從北部到南部、東部，合稱「林本源」。早年林家在宜蘭有許多的土地出租給佃農，在頭城和五結各設置一個租館設管事收租。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 這是頭城老街中最難找的一個景點，我也是找好久才找到，你面對和平街屋，右手邊有條小路（也就是面對盧纘祥公館，左手邊的無尾巷）走進去，走到底的圍牆內就是林本源租館，這間房子的外型在慶元宮門口的導覽上有，比對一下就知道是這間沒錯！
