★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place was thankfully, a couple minutes from where I lived - a local veg restaurant <3. Sadly the menu is completely in Chinese & the owner didn't seem to speak a word of English. Thankfully, a friendly customer helped us out, and we got two bowls of the tomato beef noodle soup. All parts of the dish was delicious but what stuck with me was the fake beef. It looked so much like beef, and the texture was absolutely identical - mind blowing. It even got stuck in my teeth - like actual beef. Took me back to my childhood haha. The best part is I've heard it's made from natural ingredients, rather than in a lab which is an even bigger plus. I recommend you to definitely check it out, maybe if you're planning on climbing zhongshan, but be prepared to speak chinese.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It is a vegetarian food restaurant! I love it’s vegetarian beef noodles! It is really delicious!!! You can taste its sweet and spicy at the same time! Its other side dish they made by themselves is also good!

UPDATE: I've now lived in Taipei for a year and a half and this is still my favorite meal. The broth is warming and flavorful, the noodles are thick and chewy, and the "beef" is substantial! Even in the hottest summer weather, I'll still go if I'm in the area.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was really looking forward to visiting this place since it's highly recommended.
The noodles were chewy and well cooked, and the tomato broth was rich and a little sourish. However the beef, which is actually monkey head mushroom, didn't quite seem to soak in the taste of the broth and tasted "detached" from the overall taste of the noodle soup.
We had the smelly beancurd, which tasted alright. Not one of the best veg beancurd I've had thou.
Overall, the standard is good, but the long distance from Central Taipei and the absence of the wow factor is hard to persuade me to return.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very weird. Good food but we were made to feel very unwelcome when I asked for an extra plate to help my 5 year old manage to eat his noodles. Laoban refused and wouldn't give any reason why. Seems a shame to make diners feel like an inconvenience.
