Usually when I walk into a new gym I like to first take a look at the equipment before I buy my pass, just to be sure I actually want to workout there. World Gym is the first time in my life I’ve entered a gym and got this answer: “No, you can’t look around. Pretty much everything you’d want we have.” That’s bad business, it’s insulting, and what’s more, it’s pointless. Why would a gym even be that way?

I was in Taiwan for one week and being a fitness fanatic needed to get my gym time in. There are very limited options other than World Gym which is scattered around Taipei at pretty convenient places. They have a one week free trial advertised on their website, but this is only for locals. As a foreigner, my only option was 650 taiwanese dollars. which is a very steep price for the quality. For this reason, I went there only twice during the week I was there. There is a very good selection of equipment (treadmill, ellipticals, free weights, machines, etc). FYI, all the weights are in Kg. There is one groupX studio and they have classes almost every hour of the day. The gym subscribes to Lesmill so there's things like Bodycombat, Bodypump which I have liked in the past. Because the timing of those classes didnt work with my schedule, I cannot speak to their quality. However, I went to some of their home brewed group X classes like aerobics/dance, HIIT. The instructors are strictly Mandarin speaking and will not attempt to instruct in English even when they know there is a foreigner new to the class. I understand Mandarin so that was not an issue for me. Other people in the class looked like they were enjoying themselves. The bathrooms are disgusting. There are toilets, shower stalls, a sauna, and a steam room. The latter amenities sound luxurious right? Nope. The lockerooms are poorly maintained with unflushed toilets even when I went at 6am which is their opening time. How am I suppose to relax in hot rooms when there's constant stench invading my nostrils. Overall, with the very limited Fitness options in Taipei the World Gym is OK. Definitely overpriced tolerable experience if you're looking to get your gym fix in.

Stuff is falling apart, there are too many people, no rules for personal hygiene, old and filthy changing rooms. To even get up to the sixth floor you have to jostle with hundreds of tourists as only half the elevators go to the 6th floor. Avoid.

This place is definitely a scam. True, it is the biggest gym in Taiwan but they also have bad reputation for their ways to half force their visitors to buy their membership/personal trainer packages. 1. They advertised 7 days trial online, but they don’t let you do it. They spend hours explaining their membership and REALLY want you to buy membership the same day WITHOUT trying out their facilities. 2. The way they force your mind into buying their minimum 24 months membership contract is that you get a price that is way cheaper than their normal price if you purchase the membership without the trial period. 3. They offer different price packages to different people. The monthly fee can range from NTD 1588 to NTD 1288. They decrease the price if you are more unwilling to join the gym. I think it’s ridiculous and unfair that people join the gym for different fee and use the same equipments just pouring based on their willingness to join the gym. 4. After you join the gym, they call you nearly every single day to let you make appointment for the 2 free persona training session. After that, they do the same tactic of offering different prices with the packages. If you purchase on the day, the price will be cheaper again I’ve talked to their employees and cancelled my membership free of charge within 7 days. Their employees stated that since their employees commission rules are pretty unfair, their employees really have to work hard to get a reasonable salary. I definitely think this is a company that we should avoid to stop this unreasonable treatment to their employees and their customers. Everything was purely just based on the experience I’ve had with them and also comparing their service to other gyms I have experienced.

Everything seems to be brand new. New Hoist and Hammer Strength machines. Weights are all new. From what I understood from the guy at the front desk, sounds like they got all new equipment in the last year or so. Club was clean. I did not see the bathrooms. One day pass was $650 NT or about $21-22 USD. Would say this is comparable to the US, maybe a bit higher. Definitely more than I expected.

This gym is big, we never had a problem getting on any of the cardio or weight machines. There are enough benches in the free weight area to not have to worry as well. I found that the equipment was in good condition and didn't have any issues. Dean was also ultra friendly and we had a good experience talking to him. The location is also good and there is a subway entrance right next to the gym.
