If you have kids, I guess they will be delighted by the sight of all these cartoon characters painted on the wall. That said, there is very little originality here. Still, a nice place for a stroll with the kids.

There are countless mural villages rested in the countryside of Taiwan . Most of them attract visitors with its colorful cartoon characters. Hujia village is located in the Shanhua district , Tainan. Before the mural paintings, it was a quiet and peaceful village like no others. With more and more new mural on the wall of the neighborhood , tourists started to flock here. Thanks to words of mouth and the social network , tourism bring more business and the price of property boom unexpectedly . I look forward to more diverse murals or art work when I visit here next time.

Hujia Shanhua painted village has been there for a long time, judging by the state of the artwork - some faded away, some incomplete. It is different from Danei Totoro Art Mural as some of the art at Shanhua seems to be by primary school students (I could only understand some of the description / introduction of the arts). There are high quality art works at Shanhua as well, but it's farther inside from the entry. Danei art works are done by talented artist, which truly resembles the original artwork. Art works are scattered around so prepare to walk. It's not a tourist place as not many stores / cafes are open in the area. Do bring your own water, sunscreen and umbrella to beat the heat... The public transport in Tainan is next to non-existent. So getting a chartered car is in your favour. Planning the trip to all the outskirts area and getting a car is the most efficient way that we can think of. We paid less than 2000NTD (~1800) for 6hrs, covering Winnie the Pooh painted village, Shanhua painted village, Crystal Church and Qigu salt farm, then back to Tainan city centre.
